How is a denture made?

  1. Examination: Oral tissues and remaining teeth are assessed; extractions or fillings are done first if needed.
  2. Impressions: Precise impressions are taken with a custom tray.
  3. Bite and tooth selection: The jaw relationship is recorded; tooth shade and shape are chosen to suit your face.
  4. Try-in: Teeth set in wax are tried in; appearance and speech are checked.
  5. Fitting and reviews: The denture is fitted; sore spots are adjusted over the first weeks.

Getting used to it

A new denture can feel large and foreign at first. Slight changes in speech, extra saliva and sore spots are normal. Most people adapt within 2–4 weeks.

  • In the first days, eat soft food in small bites, chewing on both sides together.
  • Reading aloud helps you get used to speaking.
  • If you get a sore spot, don't file the denture yourself; come in for an adjustment.

Caring for your denture

  • Take it out after every meal and brush it under running water; use soap or denture cleaner rather than toothpaste.
  • Take it out at night and store it in clean water or a cleaning-tablet solution so your tissues can rest.
  • Don't use hot water; it can warp the denture.
  • Clean your palate, tongue and gums with a soft brush too.

Relining and replacement

After tooth loss, the jawbone gradually shrinks, so a denture that fits well at first can loosen over the years. It then needs relining or replacing. A loose denture causes sores and chewing problems, so a yearly check is recommended.

If you're unhappy with a removable denture, see dental implants in Beylikdüzü for implant-supported options, and book an examination at our dental clinic in Beylikdüzü.
