Gum treatment in Beylikdüzü: bleeding, recession and deep cleaning
Bleeding gums are the earliest sign of gum disease. At the early stage (gingivitis) it reverses fully with professional cleaning and good home care; at the advanced stage (periodontitis), deep cleaning and regular maintenance stop it progressing.

Signs of gum disease
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Red, swollen, tender gums
- Persistent bad breath or a bad taste
- Receding gums and teeth that look longer
- Loose teeth or widening gaps
In smokers, gum blood vessels constrict so bleeding is less visible, which can delay diagnosis.
Gingivitis versus periodontitis
| Gingivitis | Periodontitis | |
|---|---|---|
| Tissue affected | Gums only | Gums, supporting tissue and bone |
| Signs | Bleeding, redness | Recession, pockets, looseness, bone loss |
| Reversible? | Fully | Lost bone usually doesn't return; progression is stopped |
| Treatment | Scale and polish plus home care | Deep cleaning, surgery if needed, regular maintenance |
How is it treated?
- Examination and charting: Pocket depths are measured and bone levels assessed on X-rays.
- Scale and polish: Tartar and plaque are removed from the tooth surfaces and polished.
- Deep cleaning (root planing): Tartar below the gum line is removed under local anaesthetic and root surfaces smoothed.
- Re-evaluation: The gum response is measured after a few weeks; if deep pockets remain, surgical options are discussed.
- Maintenance: Check-ups and cleaning, usually every 3–6 months depending on risk.
Smoking, diabetes and gums
Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes are the strongest risk factors for gum disease: they speed it up and reduce the response to treatment. The link with diabetes works both ways: treating gum inflammation can also help blood sugar control.
A similar inflammation (peri-implantitis) can develop around implants, so implant aftercare and regular check-ups matter.
Home care that actually works
- Brushing twice a day for two minutes with a soft brush
- Floss or correctly sized interdental brushes between teeth
- Short-term antiseptic mouthwash when your dentist recommends it
- Stopping or cutting down smoking

Frequently asked questions
Will bleeding gums stop on their own?
Usually not, unless the plaque and tartar causing it are removed. Stopping brushing makes it worse; keep brushing gently and come in for a check.
Do receded gums grow back?
Not on their own. Progression can be stopped, and in suitable cases surgery such as a gum graft can cover the exposed root.
Does deep cleaning hurt?
It's done under local anaesthetic, so no pain is expected during treatment. There may be some tenderness for a few days.
Can gum disease cause tooth loss?
Yes. Advanced periodontitis is one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults. Early treatment is the most effective way to keep your teeth.
