Orthodontics in Beylikdüzü: clear aligners and braces, timelines and check-ups
Orthodontics straightens crowded, gapped or misaligned teeth with clear aligners or braces. For adults, treatment usually takes between 6 months and 2 years, and a retainer is worn afterwards to keep teeth in place.

Who needs orthodontics?
- Crowded or gapped teeth
- Upper teeth sitting too far forward, or lower teeth biting in front
- Deep bite, open bite and crossbite
- Cases where teeth need moving into position before crowns, veneers or implants
Orthodontics isn't only about looks. Misaligned teeth are harder to clean, which increases the risk of decay and gum disease.
How do clear aligners work?
With clear aligners, tooth movements are planned on a digital model and a series of aligners is made, each moving the teeth a small amount. Aligners are worn about 20–22 hours a day, removed for eating and brushing, and changed at intervals set by the dentist.
Small tooth-coloured bumps (attachments) are bonded to some teeth to help the aligners grip. Success depends largely on wearing them consistently.
Clear aligners or braces?
| Clear aligners | Braces | |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Almost invisible | Metal or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets |
| Eating | Remove aligners and eat normally | Care needed with hard and sticky food |
| Cleaning | Normal brushing and flossing | Extra care around brackets |
| Compliance | Must be worn 20–22 hours a day | Fixed, so less dependent on compliance |
| Suitable cases | Most mild to moderate cases | A wide range including complex skeletal cases |

When should a child have a first orthodontic check?
Orthodontists recommend a child's first orthodontic assessment at around age 7. Treatment doesn't always start then, but jaw growth problems and crowding spotted early can often be guided with simpler appliances.
Other topics for children are covered in our children's dentist in Beylikdüzü article.
How long does it take and how often are check-ups?
| Situation | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Mild crowding or gaps | About 6–12 months |
| Moderate cases | About 12–18 months |
| Complex bite problems | 18–24 months or longer |
Check-ups are usually every 4–8 weeks depending on the treatment. Since the clinic is open seven days a week, you can book them outside work or school hours, including weekends.
Once treatment ends, teeth tend to drift back. That's why a clear or fixed retainer is used; wearing it consistently is especially important in the first year.

Frequently asked questions
Can adults have orthodontic treatment?
Yes. If teeth and gums are healthy, there's no age limit. Adults often choose clear aligners because they're nearly invisible.
Do clear aligners affect speech?
There may be a slight lisp for the first few days; most patients adapt quickly.
Can I eat with aligners in?
No. Remove them before eating, brush your teeth afterwards and put them back in. It's also best to remove them when drinking anything other than water.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
You may feel pressure and tenderness for 1–2 days after switching aligners or adjusting braces. It shows the teeth are moving and soon passes.
How long should I wear my retainer?
Longer at first, then usually only at night. Long-term use is recommended to keep teeth in place.
